ADVENTURE

For Those Who Need to Move
There is a kind of travel that begins where comfort ends.
Not reckless. Not performative. But genuinely challenging — the kind that asks something real of your body, your attention, and your willingness to be somewhere unfamiliar and stay with it. Adventure travel, done well, is not about adrenaline for its own sake. It is about what happens to you when the terrain is demanding, the plan is loose, and the only way forward is through.
Odisha is not the first place most people think of when they think of adventure. That is precisely why it is worth going.
Its forests are vast and largely unvisited. Its hill ranges are rugged and rewarding. Its rivers cut through landscapes that have no roads and no crowds. And
its tribal heartland offers a kind of human adventure — of encounter and exchange — that no mountain can replicate.
What to Expect
Every nature experience with Viasutra is built around immersion over itinerary. Expect small groups, knowledgeable local guides, and days that are shaped as much by what you discover along the way as by what was planned. Expect mornings that begin before sunrise and evenings that end around a fire. Expect to return a little quieter, and a little more awake.
Our Adventure Experiences
Similipal - Three days inside one of India's largest and least visited biosphere reserves. Similipal is tiger country — a 2,750 sq km world of sal forests, forest streams, and the thundering Barehipani waterfall. The options are many for any adventure enthusiast. From waterfall trekking to hiking in the jungle & mesmerising nights under the sky in tents. It is an immersion into a forest that asks you to pay attention.
Daringbadi - Odisha's best kept hill secret. Pine forests, coffee and pepper plantations, cascading waterfalls, and cool air that feels nothing like the rest of the state. Daringbadi moves at its own pace, and this experience is designed to match it.
Koraput - A landscape where nature and tribal culture are inseparable. Paddy terraces carved into hillsides, dense forest cover, the Kolab reservoir, and communities that have lived in deep relationship with this land for generations. Koraput is not just a natural destination — it is a living ecosystem.
Best Time to Visit
Similipal — October to March, when the forest is open and wildlife is most active. Avoid the monsoon months when the reserve closes.
Daringbadi — October to February for the cool hill climate. The coffee harvest season between November and January adds a rare sensory layer to the visit.
Koraput — October to March. The post-monsoon months bring lush green landscapes and active weekly tribal markets.
Travelling Responsibly
Our nature experiences operate with small, limited groups to minimise impact on ecosystems and local communities. We work with guides who are from the region, ensuring that your visit directly supports the people who live closest to these landscapes. We ask all travellers to follow leave-no-trace principles and to move through natural spaces with the same respect they would bring to someone else's home.
Because that is exactly what it is.
